How to use PuTTy for SSH - Open source guides, news, articles and scripts

This is a step by step guide on how to use PuTTy to for SSH.

Firstly you need to download the PuTTy software. You can download it from here:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

Once you have downloaded the PuTTy program you can open it you will see window like that:

Then you should put the hostname or IP of the SSH server(Shell hostname) where you are trying to access. It should look like this:

Then press OK and it will open a black screen in front of you asking for login username. Here you should put the username that you are going to login as. After pressing Enter it will ask you for the password. Go agead and enter the password. It will stay without displaying the password. It will not show you even **** but this is normal and it's nothing you have to worry about. It will accept the password anyway. Once the password is accepted you should be logged in. Congratilations!
Note: When you login for first time to some SSH server you will receive notification after pressing OK that you need to accept the SSH key. Go ahead and accept that key.
