This free alternative to Microsoft Office has a new Release Candidate version under number 6.As you can quess OpenOffice is an open source suite including advanced text editor , electronic tables , presentations software etc.
The package supports the original MS Office file formats - doc , xls , ppt.
And it also works with the OpenDocument format - ODF
